About Us

The Sri Lanka Aikido Association - Sri Lanka Aikikai was established in 2001 by Shihan Tadashi Komenoi (Black Belt 7th Dan). We are the oldest Aikido organization in Sri Lanka and the only Sri Lankan member of the International Aikido Federation (IAF). We are officially recognized by the Aikido World Headquarters (Hombu Dojo) in Japan and are registered with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in Sri Lanka.

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art created by Morihei Ueshiba (O'Sensei). Often referred to as "The Art of Peace" Aikido has a flowing style, redirecting the attacker's own force against them for effective self-defense. Aikido relies on technique instead of strength and can therefore be practiced by people of all ages and physical abilities.

We offer classes for all ages at our four dojo locations in Colombo. All are welcome to participate. Whether you are interested in taking up the art for self-defense, fitness or mental focus, Aikido offers something for everyone.

Our Instructors

Our dedicated team of instructors are all practitioners of Aikido with many decades of experience. All Black Belt (Yudansha) certifications awarded by us are registered at the Aikido World Headquarters. We also organize international seminars and trainings with notable Aikido teachers from around the world, making sure that our practitioners keep up to date with new innovations and developments in the art.
